I'm writing a string trio called "Desperation" right now. I wanted to start experimenting with different styles of music after Zack Sheet's music workshop during Opus 27. I started it slower and in 3/4, then picked up the pace by using a lot of syncopation, quick rhythms and drastic dynamic changes. I'm experimenting with "run-on sentences" too, like a lot of eighth notes in a small amount of space that make it more desperate-sounding.
This sounds like a great start. I'd like to hear maybe just a bit longer intro to set up the fast section. I'd like to see the harmonies, too - added dissonant tones for color may help with setting up that desperate sound. The temptation with the fast section tends to be to use pizz, but you avoided that and the section is achieving that desperate sound. It especially like your description of the "run-on sentence," and I can hear that quite clearly. Be patient as you write this - fast notes don't take up much space so the piece will seem like a lot of work for little music!
